Naula ancient city

Within the boundaries of the modern resort town of Mahmutlar Alanya, nestled among banana plantations, lie the remnants of the ancient city of Naula. These ruins, dating back to the Roman Empire, have managed to endure through the ages.

The ancient city of Naula is located in the northeast of the resort, among the streets of Mahmutlar, 200 meters from the sea. Some 1.5 thousand years ago, gladiator fights were held here, and now mothers with children freely walk around this area. In Naula, the ruins of an amphitheater, four churches, two towers, fountains, a fortress wall, a columned street and other artifacts have been preserved. It is known that this city was built at the end of the Byzantine era, in the 6th century AD. Presumably, Pompey's residence was located here, where he rested during his campaigns. It is pleasing that the monument city is not fenced in anything, and anyone can go there.

The area of the ancient city is large, there are many trodden paths. The hill where it stands can be walked around from different sides to carefully examine everything. And Naula also has many underground passages and loopholes that obviously keep their secrets and mysteries. It is not easy to get to them. But for a regular walk, what is visible to the naked eye is enough. The entrance to the ancient city is located on the eastern part of the hill (the one that is further from the sea).

Historical, entertaining, sea and other types of travel can be continued with excursions from Mahmutlar. With us you can go on exciting day trips, during which you will visit ancient cities, enjoy nature and admire picturesque waterfalls.
